Effective October 28, 2026
These terms cover your use of movingavg.com and the free tools on it. When we say "we," we mean Moving Average, Inc., a Texas corporation. By using this site, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
Other things we offer have their own terms. Our iPhone apps are covered by their license agreement. Paid programs and advisory work, such as Executive AI Build, are covered by the agreement or proposal for that work. Where those terms conflict with these, those terms win.
Our privacy policy explains what we collect and the choices you have.
Information, not advice
Everything on this site, including the essays, guides, roundtable notes, examples, results, and free tools, is general information for educational purposes. None of it is legal, investment, financial, tax, accounting, or other professional advice, and none of it is tailored to your situation. John Knox is not a lawyer or a registered investment adviser.
Reading the site, using a tool, or contacting us does not create a client, advisory, or attorney-client relationship. Advice tailored to your situation comes only through a paid engagement under a written agreement.
Before you act on anything here, talk with a qualified professional who knows your situation. Examples and results on this site come from specific companies and circumstances, and yours may turn out differently.
The views on this site are John's own, not those of any employer or client.
The free tools
The AI Policy Generator and the AI IP Risk Assessment give you a starting point, not an answer. The generator writes a discussion draft. The assessment gives a score and suggested fixes based on your answers.
Neither one is legal advice, and using them doesn't make us your lawyer or advisor. Their output depends on your answers and can be incomplete or wrong for your situation. Have qualified counsel review a policy before you adopt it, and check any suggestion before you act on it. You are responsible for what you decide to do with the output.
The policy you generate is yours to use, edit, and share inside your company.
Our content
The essays, guides, and other material on this site belong to Moving Average, Inc. You're welcome to read them, share links to them, and quote short passages with a link back. Please don't republish whole pages or sell our material without asking.
What you send us
When you fill in a form, you tell us the truth as best you know it, and you send only information you have the right to share. Please don't put anything confidential in a form. Use the form to start the conversation, and we can agree on how to handle sensitive material from there.
Using the site fairly
Please don't:
- try to break into, overload, or disrupt the site;
- send spam or automated submissions through our forms;
- use the site to break the law or to infringe anyone's rights.
We may block access for anyone who does.
No warranty
We build the site and the tools with care, but we provide them "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. That includes warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We don't promise the site will be available, error-free, or right for your needs.
Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Moving Average, Inc. is not liable to you or anyone else for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the site or its tools, or from your reliance on anything you read or generate here. This applies whether the claim is based on contract, tort (including negligence), or any other theory, even if we were told such damages were possible. Because the site and tools are free, our total liability for any claim about them is limited to $100.
Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
Links to other sites
We link to other websites and embed some content from them, such as LinkedIn posts. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for them.
Changes
We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the date at the top of this page. If you keep using the site after a change, the new terms apply.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies.
